Introductory Pages of the Book of Mormon

“Another Testament of Jesus Christ”

Scripture:

Introduction to the Book of Mormon:

“We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost.” (See Moroni 10:3–5.)

“Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah.”

Prophetic promise:

President Russell M. Nelson said, “I promise that as you ponder what you study [in the Book of Mormon], the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life” (“The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like without It?” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2017, 62–63).

FHE activity idea:
Make a record of sacred things. Have each child make a composition book as a place to write their own record.

• composition notebook
• foil
• pen write with

I want to talk about how the Book of Mormon is a record of the sacred events and teachings.

We are told to liken the scriptures unto ourselves and I thought it would be fun to make a scripture/family home evening journal where we could write the spiritual impressions we have and the things we learn as we study the scriptures.

You can buy some gold foil or use aluminum foil. I ordered mine online but I also saw some at Target.
I put the foil over the composition books
And added my name with a sharpie. I’m going to do the rest with my kiddos.
We had a great time talking about how the Book of Mormon is a record of prophets here in America who wrote the things of God on special or sacred plates. We talked about how we can write the special things that we learn about God too.
It was a little harder for their little hands than I thought I’d be but they were patient as they waited for help. I love how they all wrote their names (except for the 3 year old). I really hope that they will be able to fill these journals with things that help them come closer to Christ.

Play idea:
Act out the story of Joseph Smith’s vision of the angel Moroni and
then finding the plates.

I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm so grateful for the resources that it has given us to get to know our Savior more. I have a supportive husband and 4 great kids. Here is some of the things we do in our home to implement Come Follow Me.
