“I Will Go and Do”

Scripture:

1 Nephi 3:7

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

Activity Idea:

Treasure Hunt with Clues and Challenges

I really want the scriptures to come to life for my kids so I made this treasure hunt that covers 1 Nephi 1-7. The great thing about this activity is that it can be done in a huge area or in one room.
1st figure out where you want your locations to be around the house or in a room.
Place the clues in the locations they belong in.
Add the actions to the correct clues if you choose to do this. I thought it would be fun to have little challenges of things to do like pick up the gold and precious things and take it to Laban’s house.
The big picture shows where you are the the little picture shows where you need to go.
If you want to read the scripture verses as you go you will go through most of the reading for the week.

Start in Jerusalem- Lehi’s house (1 Nephi 2: 1-3)

  1. Valley of Lemuel or Lehi’s Tent (1 Nephi 2: 5-10)
  2. Jerusalem (1 Nephi 3: 9)
    1. Cast lots (1 Nephi 3:11)
  3. Laban’s house (1 Nephi 3:11-13)
  4. Outside Jerusalem (1 Nephi 3:14)
  5. Lehi’s house (1 Nephi 3:22)
    1. Get gold and precious things (1 Nephi 3:22)
  6. Laban’s house (1 Nephi 3:23-25)
  7. Outside Jerusalem in cave (1 Nephi 3:27)
    1. Brothers smite Nephi with rod and angel arrives (1 Nephi 3:28-30)
  8. Walls of Jerusalem (1 Nephi 4:4)
  9. Near house of Laban (1 Nephi 4:7)
    1. Kill Laban (1 Nephi 4:18)
    1. Put on his clothes (1 Nephi 4:19)
  10. Treasury of Laban (1 Nephi 4:20)
    1. Get plates of brass (1 Nephi 4:24)
    1. take Zoram (1 Nephi 4: 25)
  11. Walls of Jerusalem (1 Nephi 4:27-28)

  13. Jerusalem- House of Ismael (1 Nephi 7:3-4)
    1. Get wives and Ismael’s family (1 Nephi 7:5)
  14. One the way back to Lehi’s tent (1 Nephi 7:6)
    1. Brothers rebel (1 Nephi 7:16)
    1. Nephi bursts the bands (1 Nephi 7:17)
  15. Valley of Lemuel or Lehi’s Tent (1 Nephi 7:22)

We decided to use our little pop up tent as Lehi’s tent in the wilderness.
We read through the scriptures as we moved through the treasure hunt.
We were able to get the plates of brass!
‘Nephi’ is still wearing Labans clothes and still has his sword as he returned to the tent of his father.
We tried to take turns with the kids to read the verses.
