Alma 36-38

Look to God and Live

July 20-26

Scripture: Alma 36: 17 & 20

And it came to pass that as I was thus aracked with torment, while I was bharrowed up by the cmemory of my many sins, behold, I dremembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world.

And oh, what ajoy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!

Activity Idea: Memory: Remember What Dad Said

I love in the recounting his (Alma) story to his son Helaman, that the changing point hinged on REMEMBERING what his father had taught him about Jesus Christ. (Alma 36: 17-21.)

For this activity we are going to have dad say several words and then ask the kids to remember a specific word or phrase.

Dad says: balloon, water, book, church, clouds, dishes, trials, and cell phone.

Then dad asks: what did I say that started with the letter “t” or “something that is in this room.”

Use your own list. Have fun with it.

Another spin on this is to have dad quote a scripture and see how closely they can get to repeating it verbatim.

Younger kids can have fewer words or you can use objects.

Activity Idea from the Church: Small, Small, Tall!

  • Sing “Once There Was a Snowman” (Children’s Songbook, 249).
  • Alma taught his son that by “small and simple things are great things brought to pass” (Alma 37:6). That means that the small, good things we do each day can make a big difference.
  • Now build something big out of something small! What could you use? You can also plan a small act of service your family could do together.

I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm so grateful for the resources that it has given us to get to know our Savior more. I have a supportive husband and 4 great kids. Here is some of the things we do in our home to implement Come Follow Me.
