“The Worth of Souls Is Great”
February 22-28
Scripture: D&C 18:10

Activity Idea: Guess the Price of…

So many times when we think about worth and value of objects we think of how much it costs. We think of the cost to buy, the cost to make, and the cost to sell. We think in terms of money. So for this activity we are going to pick several household objects and look up the cost. Then we will display the item and have family members guess the prices of each items (you could have several prices to choose from, white boards for them to write out guesses, or just shout out your best guess.)
After this activity I want to talk about that the value and worth of things in Heavenly Father’s eyes is so much different than how we view things with money.
Read D&C 18:10
One of my favorite quotes from C.S Lewis from the Weight of Glory puts the worth of souls into prospective:
“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree helping each other to one or the other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all of our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations – these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit – immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”
Activity Idea from the Church: Love Mailboxes
Sing “I Stand All Amazed” (Hymns, no. 193).
Jesus taught that “the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (Doctrine and Covenants 18:10). That means that each person—including you!—is important to Jesus and Heavenly Father. How do you feel Heavenly Father’s love for you? Make a pretend mailbox for each person in your family. Then leave kind notes for each other to help everyone feel loved!
