Who I Am.

I’m a mom of 4 awesome kids and a wife to a great man. I absolutely love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I’m so grateful for their Come Follow Me resources. It has been life changing in my family. I love how you don’t have to do anything other than open the book and it is so easy to adapt to each family and their needs. It is such an amazing resource to help us study the scriptures.

I’m writing what we do in our family. Not that anyone else needs to or should do Come Follow Me like our family.

My goal is to have an activity a week. I really want to scriptures to come to life in our home!

I learn so much from others and I learn more when I’m bold enough to share. My prayer is that I can have a space to share my love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and how that looks in my home.

D&C 64-66

“The Lord Requireth the Heart and a Willing Mind”

June 14-20

Scripture: D&C 64:9-11

Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.

I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.

And ye ought to say in your hearts—let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds.

Activity Idea: Play Sorry!

The Lord wants us to forgive one another. Let’s practice this by playing Sorry! togther.

Can we forgive someone when they Sorry! us? When they put us in a bad position for their gain?

Can we be a good looser?

Can we be happy for those around us?

The Lord will forgive who He will. But we are required to forgive all. It takes practice.

D&C 60-62

“All Flesh Is in Mine Hand”

May 31-June 6

Scripture: D&C 62:3

Activity Idea: Testify

Read together D&C 62:3

Have a tray of random objects. Only show it to one person for a designated time. Have the person try to tell everyone else what they saw and see how many items they can remember.

They are testifying of the things that they see. We can continue to learn more as we study more, take more time, and testify and write down the things that we see.

Take time to testify of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel and give your family the opportunity to do so as well.

Activity Idea from the Church: You Can Choose

D&C 58-59

“Anxiously Engaged in a Good Cause”

May 24-30

Scripture: D&C 58:27-28

Activity Idea: Do Good

What a better way to live D&C 58: 27-28 and to be anxiously engaged in a good cause, then to find a good cause that you can do NOW.

Don’t overthink it. Don’t stress. Give your family some ideas of things that you can do, then pray about it and go to work!

“A Faithful, a Just, and a Wise Steward”

May 17-23

Scripture: D&C 51:9

Activity Idea: Button, Button

  1. Have everyone sit in a circle.
  2. Choose someone to be “It” and give them the button.
  3. Everyone puts out their right arm and open their hand, palm up.
  4. The player who is It goes around the circle and touches the palm of everyone playing.
  5. Everyone closes their palm quickly after the person who is It touches it.
  6. The player who is It drops the button surreptitiously in the palm of one of the players.
  7. The person who is It sits back in their place and the group chants “Button, Button, Who’s Got the Button?”
  8. Starting with the person to the right of It, each player takes a turn guessing who has the button. The guess is framed as “(FIRST NAME) has got the button!”
  9. Once the person with the button is guessed, that round is over.
  10. Whoever had the button now takes a turn as It.

During this game people will lie about if they had the button or not. Read D&C 51: 9. Talk about the importance of telling the truth.

D&C 49-50

“That Which Is of God Is Light”

May 10-16

Scripture: D&C 50: 24

Activity Idea: Flashlight Tag

Think tag mixed with hide-and-go-seek in the dark.

  1. Decide if you are going to play indoors with some lights off or outside.
  2. Pick someone to be it and give them a flashlight.
  3. Hide while “it” counts to a pre-determined amount of time.
  4. “It” tries to find everyone else playing with the light.
  5. When the light touches anyone they are “out.”

Read together D&C 50:24 and talk about light. The light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Light can grow and increase. It will fill our minds, souls, and bodies as we come nearer Jesus Christ. Talk about ways in which we can grow in the light.

Activity Idea from the Church: Follow the Light

D&C 41-44

“My Law to Govern My Church”

April 19-25

Scripture: D&C 42:61

Activity Idea: Revelation Puzzle

I loved the idea from the Come Follow Me manual about using a puzzle to talk about receiving revelation “revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge.” (D&C 42:61)

As we receive more knowledge and revelation we see more clearly the picture that God wants us to see.

Get a puzzle out and talk about revelation and how piece by piece our knowledge and understanding grows.

Activity Idea from the Church: Secret Service Challenge

D&C 37-40

“If Ye Are Not One Ye Are Not Mine”

April 12-18

Scripture: D&C 38:27

Activity Idea: Magic Carpet

Objective: To work together and “be one.” (D&C 38:27)

Materials needed:

  • tarp or sheet
  • your family

Instructions:

  • Have everyone stand on the tarp/sheet and tell them that it is a magic carpet that is high above the air.
  • As a group you need to flip the carpet over.
  • No one can get off the carpet anytime because it is in the air.
  • See how fast you can do it together. Learn to be one and work together.

“You Are Called to Preach My Gospel”

April 5-11

Scripture: D&C 33:10

Activity Idea: Role Play

Take turns role playing how you can share the gospel in some situations:

  • When a friend asks you what you did over the weekend. (You can talk about going to church)
  • Someone asks you what church you go to.
  • Practice inviting a friend to church or a church activity.
  • Practice giving a statement of belief. (Testimony in a sentence without “I want to bear my testimony…”)
